PILLOW DISTRIBUTION PROJECT
WITH KEEPING HOPE ALIVE
Charity starts from home and right in our backyard. We also believe that we do not need to reinvent the wheel.
Instead of starting a new movement and serving the same group of residents which may result in duplicating resources, we support our local volunteer group, Keeping Hope Alive. This group is founded by Madam Fion Phua. She has been visiting low income families, door to door, every Sunday morning since year 2000.
Madam Fion Phua has a deep knowledge and understanding of the needs of the low income residents. She has a strong rapport and has gained the trust of the residents. Sometimes, Madam Fion will need preloved washing machines for an elderly living alone, or a fridge for an old man to store his insulin medications. At times, she will need furnitures, which we take to our social media to find the resources and arrange for delivery.
Once we asked her what she needed, which she said: “I need pillows.” With the support of many friends, we pooled together resources to buy 80 pillows which almost filled our entire living room. The next day, we joined Madam Fion Phua in her distribution activity. One elderly woman received the pillow with tears in her eyes.
There are many opportunities for us to share our love. Aside to giving money, we can also give our time and our energy—in addition to funds which are still often needed to make purchase for the beneficiaries.
Reach out to our local volunteer groups and see how you can help them.
