SCHOOL REBUILDING PROJECT

Siew Yian went to Nepal after a major earthquake with a richter scale of 7.8 struck the country in April 2015. Through her volunteer work with A New Vision, she was connected to a world renowned humanitarian eye doctor in Nepal, dr Sanduk Ruit. He invited Siew Yian to join his relief work in Nepal and to also help him locate more resources.

While in Kathmandu, Siew Yian organised a meeting to connect the Singapore Red Cross with dr Ruit who also runs a local community eye hospital in Nepal. The meeting subsequently led to a major food relief distribution to over 5,000 families in Charikot, led by dr Ruit and funded by the Singapore Red cross.

Using her photography skill, Siew Yian documented the food distribution process and the victims affected by the earthquake. She also visited the local orthopaedic hospital to photograph foreign medical teams operating on the victims. The photos were shared with non-profit organisations in Germany and Australia to help raise fund for earthquake affected victims.

Together with A New Vision, Siew Yian and Cindy are now supporting the projects to rebuild 10 schools and 2 health posts in Nepal, funded by the Singapore Red Cross.
